Watch out, censors. I'm about to use a couple of vulgar words. Here they are: station wagon.
Based on how car makers have avoided using those words for the past 20 years, you'd think there was something dirty about calling a station wagon what it is. American cars that carry a lot of cargo will append their names with all kinds of crazy monikers -- active, touring, sport, cross -- all to keep from using that awful expletive, "wagon." Well, Cadillac earns some points for honesty by introducing the new CTS Sport Wagon this year.
The CTS Sport Wagon takes the successful formula of its sedan predecessor and adds a level of storage capability, making it a compelling alternative to an SUV or larger vehicle
Yes, it's a station wagon. And, more importantly, it's a great car. Just like the name implies, the CTS Sport Wagon is essentially a CTS sedan with a cargo area grafted onto the back end. Surprisingly, that wagon body style seems to completely change the character of this car -- both in how it functions and how it looks.
The extra cargo space means the CTS Sport Wagon essentially acts like a crossover SUV, complete with a power liftgate that can raise and lower with the push of a button. And that sleek, sloping roofline makes it look even more interesting than the angular CTS Sedan, giving it the style of a classy European car. It really does have a different visual personality than the sedan, making it seem more sporty and avant garde.
On the road, it's a lot more fun to drive than crossovers, though. Its low-slung design, excellent suspension and wild, high-tech V6 engine make it great for enthusiast drivers who like to feel the road. It definitely doesn't float like an old Cadillac, instead opting for the same crisp, tight feeling of the CTS sport sedan.

The 306-horsepower V6 is especially impressive. Direct injection gives it good response and added efficiency, and -- coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission -- it accelerates with gusto and sounds thrilling.
