Buick's smaller SUV combines attributes of a wagon and minivan. The platform and some mechanical elements were borrowed from GM minivans so Rendezvous drives and rides with the easy-to-maneuver agility of a minivan, yet the boxy package works like a sport-utility wagon.
The cabin is that of a luxury vehicle stocking as many as three tiers of seats for six or seven passengers plus room in the rear for cargo. A luxurious monochromatic version of Rendezvous, called Ultra, contains appointments that elevate it beyond CX and CXL trims.
The Ultra also uses a 3.6-liter, V6 engine with variable valve timing (VVT) to make 242-hp. Rendezvous CX and CXL stock a 3.4-liter, V6 that nets 185-hp, although the larger V6 is available on CXL in 2005.
A conventional Rendezvous drivetrain operates constantly in FWD format, while an available AWD system for CXL or Ultra helps the wagon maintain traction on wet or slippery pavement.

The 2007 Buick Rendezvous mid-size crossover sport utility vehicle (CUV or SUV) was introduced in 2001 as a 2002 model. It was built on the General Motors (GM) U minivan platform, which was also the base of the Chevrolet Venture, Oldsmobile Silhouette, Pontiac Aztek, Transport and Montana as well as the Buick Terraza. The Rendezvous and the Pontiac Aztek, are the Edsels of the 21st Century. The two were the first crossover SUVs offered by GM and were poorly received by consumers.
The Buick Rendezvous CUV was offered in two trim levels. The Rendezvous CX had a manufacturer suggested retail price of (MSRP) of $25,925 and an invoice price of $24,287, while the Rendezvous CXL had a MSRP of $29,500 and an invoice price of $27,630.
The Buick Rendezvous competed with the Honda Pilot and the Nissan Murano. Both trim levels were available with a 195-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 engine, four-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive system.
Seats and trim features in the Rendezvous included five-person seating capacity for the Rendezvous CX, and seven-person seating capacity for the Rendezvous CXL. Both came with bucket, manual driver and passenger seats with lumbar support, power driver passenger seat (available only on the Rendezvous CXL), front center armrest, split-folding bench rear seats, rear seat center armrest, bench third row seats, leather upholstery (available only on the Rendezvous CXL), and a leather steering wheel. A power driver's seat was optional on the Rendezvous CX but standard on the Rendezvous CXL, while heated front seats were optional only on the Rendezvous CXL.
The Buick Rendezvous' basic suspension, handling and exterior features included four wheel independent suspension, front and rear anti-roll bars, power-dependent steering, speed-sensing steering, power and heated door mirrors, roof rack (rails only), and alloy wheels. Auto-leveling suspension was optional on both trim levels.
Convenience features on the Rendezvous included automatic temperature control (available only on the Rendezvous CXL), speed control, power windows, remote keyless and illuminated entry, tilt steering wheel, driver vanity mirror, and OnStar Roadside assistance. A garage door transmitter and front dual zone air conditioning were optional on the Rendezvous CX but standard on the Rendezvous CXL. Power moonroof was optional on both the Rendezvous CX and Rendezvous CXL, while GPS and memory seat were optional only on the Rendezvous CXL.
