The mid-size, 5 Series sport sedans incorporates styling points of 7 Series sedans and electronic controls for powertrain and chassis. There are three models in 2005 based on engine size -- 525i, 530i and 545i.

The ASC adaptive steering system is optional, along with AHC headlamps.

Cabins provide luxurious appointments and BMW adds more hardwood trim for 2005 with Poplar Grain standard and Anthracite Maple available as a no-load option.

In-line, six-cylinder powertrains from the 3 Series drop into two of the 5-Series models -- the 2.5-liter six in the 525i, and 3.0-liter version in the 530i. The top-model totes BMW's 4.4-liter, V8 that rocks at 325-hp. All come with either a six-speed manual transmission or new six-speed Steptronic automatic, but the SMG is available also on the 530i and 545i with a sport package.

The BMW 5 Series mid-size luxury cars are sexy and powerful daily drivers than anyone would enjoy owning. The BMW 5 Series are available in sedan (MSRP $44,300 - $58,500) and sport wagon (MSRP $54,000) versions. The sedan version (528i, 528xi, 535i, 535xi, 550i trim levels) competes with the Acura RL, Audi A6, Cadillac STS, Infiniti M35 and M45, Jaguar S-Type, Lexus GS 350, Lexus GS 460, Lincoln MKZ, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Saab 9-5, and Volvo S60. The sport wagon (535xi) version competes with the Audi A6 Avant, Infiniti FX35 and FX45, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Saab 9-5 wagon, and Volvo V70.

All trim levels can be customized with a variety of option packages and accessories. They are available with either the 6-speed manual or Steptronic manual-shift automatic transmission system. The 528i comes with a 230-horsepower, 3.0-liter I6 engine, and rear-wheel drive system (all-wheel drive system for the 528xi). The 535i comes with a 300-horsepower, 3.0-liter I6 T engine, and rear-wheel drive system (all-wheel drive system for the 535xi). The 550i comes with a 360-horsepower, 4.8-liter V8 engine, and rear-wheel drive system.

Basic features include cruise control, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, tachometer, speed-proportional power steering, audio and cruise control on the steering wheel, front and rear cup holders, trip computer, heated and power mirrors, low fuel level warning indicator, 10-way driver and passenger seat, height-adjustable driver and passenger seat, external temperature display, rain-sensing and variably intermittent wipers, power glass sunroof, remote sunroof operation, dual-zone climate controls for both the driver and passenger, cooled storage compartment, front and rear reading lights, dual-illuminating vanity mirrors, leather-wrapped steering wheel, alloy trim on the shift knob, wood trim on doors, leather and wood trims on the center console, leatherette upholstery, and extended cabin heating. Premium leather upholstery and electrochromatic inside rear view mirror are standard only on the 550i. Chrome grille, rear spoiler, sport front seats, multi-level heating driver and passenger seats, and universal remote transmitter (for garage door and security system) are available.

The 2008 BMW M5 mid-size high-performance luxury sedan (MSRP $82,900) is both elegant, and among the fastest, best-handling sedans on the market, yet it makes an excellent daily driver. The BMW M5 competes with the Audi S6, Chevrolet Corvette, and Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG. TheM5 is equipped with a 500-horsepower, 5.0-liter, Dual Overhead Cam V10 engine, either a 7-speed (SMG) Sequential Manual Gearbox automated manual or conventional 6-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive.

The first BMW M5, based on the E28 5 Series, made its debut at the Amsterdam Motor Show in February 1985. It was the product of demand for an automobile with the carrying capacity of a saloon (sedan), but the overall performance of a sports car. [1] The Current E61-based BMW M5 is the fifth generation for the high performance sedan.

M5 has active four-wheel independent suspension with Macpherson struts in the front and a multi-link setup in the rear. There are front and rear stabilizer bars. The car rides on 9.5 inch alloy wheels with performance tires. M5 has a rear limited slip differential.

Inside the BMW M5 there is seating for up to five adults in height-adjustable driver and passenger sport seats. It has a bench seat in the rear. The seating surfaces and steering wheel are covered with premium leather. Metal alloy and leather trim is used on the dash and door inserts as well as on the shift knob. Overhead there is a power glass moonroof. The M5 instrumentation includes an 8.8” screen to display navigation, entertainment and climate control information, as well as a compass, trip computer, tachometer, clock and external temperature display.

Entertainment and telematics features in the BMW M5 include a Logic 7 7.1 discrete surround audio system with MP3 capablity. AM/FM in-dash single CD player and a 6-CD changer located in glove compartment. There are a total of 13 speakers, and also 2 subwoofers, a diversity antenna, radio data system, pre-wiring for a phone, DVD navigation system with voice activation, real time traffic reporting, Bluetooth wireless data link for a hands-free phone, and BMW Assist telecommunications service.

Convenience features in the BMW M5 include speed-proportional power steering, cruise and audio controls on the tilt and telescopic steering wheel, front console with storage, dual illuminating vanity mirrors, dual zone climate controls for driver and front passenger, and an interior, active-charcoal air filter.
